The Grove Isle Condo Association received notice at 4.55 pm Friday (2/20) from the developer of changes to parking availability on Grove Isle. We are informed that these changes are effective as of 6am Monday (2/23). We attach copies of the relevant notices below for your ease of reference (click image to open) . The matter has been referred to the Island’s lawyers and the Board has advised residents to “take no action until further notice.”
Agree with Bob, Carlos, et. al – why are we paying dues to a club that is using our funds to do what with? Certainly not be a collaborative helpful neighbor. AND – IF the lots are closed between 1 and 2 – pray tell how are the parents of the darling children going to tennis camp being dropped off??? They will barely use the lots to begin with and prefer to “park” their cars in the drive to exit our buildings. Mr. Avila purchased the stock or partnership equity in the Hotel and Club as I understand it and there was not a sale of property or he would be paying much more in real estate taxes!!! We should not have to suffer because he made a poor business decision.

I propose we post a guard on the open parking lot of building one and not allow boaters and tennis players to park there. I also propose we boycott the restaurant and club by not spending our money on these facilities.

I AGREE. MIAMI WORKS ON POLITICS AND INFLUENCE. FROM WHAT I HEAR THE CITIZENS OF MIAMI ARE ALREADY FED UP WITH GREEDY DEVELOPERS CATERING TO THE RUSSIAN MOB. HOW THEY ARE EATING UP ANY SPACE AVAILABLE WITH THEIR ZERO LOT TOWERS. WHAT HAPPENED TO MIAMI 21? I GUESS ANY DEVELOPER CAN GET AN EXCEPTION. TRY CHANGING AN A/C UNIT IN YOUR APARTMENT….GOOD LUCK!
I ALWAYS HEAR HOW SUCH AND SUCH IS A JUDGE, A MAGNATE, A MILLIONAIRE, ETC. SOMEONE PLEASE CONTACT THESE PEOPLE AND EXPLAIN HOW MUCH THEIR HELP IS NEEDED NOW.

Another tactic in an attempt to split/pressure the association members regarding the development. As club members we should ALL stop paying dues has anyone seen the condition of the pool area lately? The unsafe conditions of the path? The filth around the hotel? If this is how Avila wants to show us how he cares about Grove Isle’s image or what to expect once he takes full control then I say it is time for ALL members to speak up. He has taken this fight to a whole new level. Nonsense!!!!

I remember the last meeting we had with the representatives of the club. In order to avoid the mob, and keep the lies going, they said landscape and needed repairs were being taken care of later that week and all furniture was arriving within days. I vaguely remember there was actually a laundry list. (I would love to revisit that). We should sue the troll!!!
They were able to convince all of us at the meeting that they were on top of it. Nothing has been done, except maybe the women’s spa, maybe, I don’t know. 🙂
How much more of this short and shifty character are we going to take???
Let’s have the city start an investigation into this whole mess. The city employees he has bought, the whole deal with Weiner. Where are we with the club lawsuit????
We need to receive an update in this NOW! We need to collect from this deadbeat.

Before we know, it we will be involved in electing a new commissioner for our district. Let’s make sure we get an official statement from the candidate we will support and endorse. This statement should state their opposition to Avila’s development. We need support at city level. Avila will stop at nothing and I don’t put it past him he has greased several employees and city officials. We need to even the playing field.

How childish!!! Revenge tactics by Avila??? What will be the next punishment tactics
served on GI residents? Have we not been proactive enough legally?

Hope the Board or Management company alert the gate house not to allow access to any tow trucks unless requested by a resident.

(repost from communicate) Let us all be aware of who we are dealing with. A angry controlling and hostile man. He is not to be trusted and needs to be dealt with legally and aggressively. Furthermore why are we helping to generate a revenue stream for him to use to against us? Our attorneys need to help us get this convoluted arrangement stopped regarding membership dues.

The developer is supposed to be a smart operator… so why would he do this? Is it a trick?

For Avila to claim that he can now charge hotel parking rates for the 111 non-exclusive parking spaces he is required to provide in the parking structure east of GI 3 makes no sense based on the original city approvals and the condo docs.

It could be a deliberate provocation … but its ended up as yet another poorly conceived and executed move.

I agree, we should strive to establish a totally private island.
The cost would not be prohibitive and the benefits would be enormous.
Lets get rid of this Avila permnently.

Yet more pressure from the developer who has not understood the detail of what he has bought on Grove Isle. Amazing… all vehicles on the car deck between building 2 and building 3 are due to be towed???

Welcome to Car Wars!
I suppose his tennis and marina non-resident Club members will have to park by Club valet at their expense-as we own the visitor’s parking lot in front of building 1?

Let’s bring in the cavalry and serve this Napoleon with his own Waterloo. Where are all the big wigs that live on the island. Come out and give us a hand. Use your connections for the benefit of ALL residents. I only know of the shindig we had for a candidate (Grace) to the city commission. That’s a start!
We need to have more than just our attorneys working on this. The legal process is slow and expensive. Politically we can score quicker and harder.
